Gingivitis should be treated through periodontics executing a thorough cleaning to remove bacterial plaque and tartar. At CENSADENT, with our team of specialist dentists, we also carry out an educational function in order to give our patients the basic and necessary information related to oral health, so that gingivitis does not appear again after being removed.
To prevent gingivitis, CENSADENT recommends its patients to visit the odontologist for a thorough oral cleaning at least once a year.
If gingivitis is not removed, this could be developed until becoming periodontitis, with the accumulation of bacterial plaque and tartar beneath the gum line and the formation of periodontal pockets, which damages the tooth root, bone structure and tissue. Serious periodontitis cases could lead to the loss of teeth and other problems such as: aesthetic alteration, chewing difficulty, stomach problems, pain gum bleeding, bad breath, etc.
The basic treatment for periodontitis consists in removing the existing infection by cleaning the whole mouth, under local anaesthesia. In the event of advanced stage or bone regeneration is needed, minor surgical operation under local anaesthesia will be required. This treatment can be complemented by using antibiotics. After this treatment, you will have your smile back.
